1st Rom Parade

The first Rom Parade took place in Rome, from the Colosseum to the Foro Boario. According to TG1 and Radio Radicale, approximately 8,000–10,000 people participated.

The event turned into a great music festival with the participation of the Alexian Group, musicians from Kosovo, the Taraf de Bucarest, Chaja Chelen and many other international artists.

A historic demonstration that brought the voice and culture of the Rom people to the streets of Rome.

September 4, 2010

Mobilization at Campo de’ Fiori

Campo de’ Fiori square, Rome. A major mobilization against racism, discrimination, nomad camps and the use of the Rom people as scapegoats for society’s problems.

A powerful moment of civil denunciation that drew the attention of public opinion and institutions to the living conditions of the Rom in Italy.

10 Points for Change

The Associazione Thèm Romanò outlines 10 fundamental points to improve the conditions of the Rom people in Italy and initiate a genuine process of inclusion.

Security and legality for all

Security and legality for everyone, including the Rom, without distinction of ethnic origin.

Restore legality

Restore legality with regard to the human rights violations suffered by the Rom population.

Dismantle nomad camps

The Rom are not nomads by culture; 70% are Italian citizens who live in houses.

Access to public housing

Facilitate access to public housing for Rom families living in conditions of need.

Integration through EU funds

Promote integration through the funds made available by the European Union.

Stop the demonization

Stop the demonization of an entire people, responsible only to a minimal extent for the problems attributed to them.

Knowledge of Rom culture

Promote knowledge of the history, culture, art and language of the Rom people.

Move beyond welfare dependency

Acknowledge the failure of the welfare approach carried out by volunteer organisations.

Council of Rom intellectuals

Create a council of Rom intellectuals who can offer an authoritative and competent contribution.
